2006 Men's Walk to End Abuse

Many thanks to everyone who helped make the fourth annual Men's Walk to End Abuse such a beautiful day --whether by walking, making a donation, or simply spreading the word!

On October 7, over 60 people gathered in Hadley to walk into Northampton to raise awareness about men's responsibility to work to prevent domestic violence. Men from brother organizations such as Men's Resources International in Springfield and NOMAS in eastern Massachusetts were on hand to support this event. The Walk also included many men from the MRC's support groups, staff past and present, and representatives from some of the women's organizations benefitting from the event. Walkers were greeted at the Unitarian Society in downtown Northampton with donated food and drinks and uplifting music. After some moments of rest, those at the Men's Walk rally heard inspiring words from a host of speakers, including nationally renowned author and presenter Jackson Katz. Later in the day, rally attendees were treated to live music performed by the Alchemystics and to recordings spun by DJ Theory.

All funds raised in conjunction with this event go to support domestic violence prevention efforts in the Pioneer Valley. The MRC has yet to meet its goal of raising $10,000, and welcomes new donations throughout October, Domestic Violence Prevention Month. Donations can be made online by clicking here, or by sending a check to the Men's Resource Center, 236 N. Pleasant Street, Amherst, MA 01002. We hope you'll continue to play a role in spreading the word about both our success and our continued need for more support.

Many thanks!!
